Speaker:

And now here's your host dimple.

Speaker:

Dang.

Speaker:

Hello there.

Speaker:

My mesmerizing marketing tribe today, I'm super excited because

Speaker:

it is November 16th, 2021, which is national entrepreneurs' day.

Speaker:

Now there's a holiday for everything there's like national cupcake

Speaker:

day national margarita day.

Speaker:

Well, we definitely needed a national entrepreneur dates.

Speaker:

So I'm super excited because I am an entrepreneur and I have lots of

Speaker:

friends that are also entrepreneurs.

Speaker:

And I think we definitely deserve a day to celebrate being an

Speaker:

entrepreneur and everything that we've done to get to where we are in

Speaker:

our journey to building our empire.

Speaker:

I'm so excited.

Speaker:

This is what's in store for you.

Speaker:

Today.

Speaker:

So I'm going to tell you guys about the history of national entrepreneur

Speaker:

day, because I think there's always an interesting story there.

Speaker:

And I'm also going to share with you what entrepreneurship means to me personally,

Speaker:

because I think every person has their why of why they became an entrepreneur.

Speaker:

Everyone has a story of, you know, what compelled them to.

Speaker:

Going become an entrepreneur in launch their own business.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

And then I also, I'm going to be giving some shout outs to those of you that

Speaker:

have left me reviews because without you guys, I wouldn't have a show.

Speaker:

And I just wanted to say that I'm so thankful.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

You guys, let's get down to national entrepreneurs' day.

Speaker:

So, first of all, if you are an entrepreneur, I want to know what

Speaker:

you're going to do to celebrate today.

Speaker:

What are you going to do to celebrate yourself?

Speaker:

What are you going to do to celebrate those that are entrepreneurs around you?

Speaker:

What are you going to do to support them?

Speaker:

I also think it's important that I share some ways that you can

Speaker:

get involved in the activities and share and just get that excitement.

Speaker:

But before we go there, I want to tell you guys about the history

Speaker:

of, national entrepreneurs' day.

Speaker:

It comes from the French word called entrepreneur day, which means undertake.

Speaker:

This actually appeared in the French dictionary back in the year of 1723.

Speaker:

So that's like a long time ago.

Speaker:

and also the study of entrepreneurship comes from an Irish French

Speaker:

economist named Richard can tell Ian

Speaker:

back from the late 17th and 18th century.

Speaker:

And when he did, is he defined the term entrepreneur in a book called essay

Speaker:

on the nature of trade in general.

Speaker:

And in this book, he shared that an entrepreneur has to be willing to take

Speaker:

on risk and to deal with uncertainty.

Speaker:

That's really important.

Speaker:

So when you think about.

Speaker:

Being an entrepreneur, it can be a little bit risky.

Speaker:

You don't have that paycheck coming in every two weeks.

Speaker:

You don't have that security of, you know, making money.

Speaker:

There are times when things will get tough and you will want to give up.

Speaker:

But trust me, you just have to keep going.

Speaker:

And there are times when you will have big wins and big high.

Speaker:

So it's very much like a roller coaster.

Speaker:

Being an entrepreneur is like a rollercoaster.

Speaker:

And sometimes you just got a ride that ride.

Speaker:

And you get to the very top and then you look down and guess what it is

Speaker:

the most gorgeous view in the world.

Speaker:

And that's like a feeling it's a high that you want.

Speaker:

, so I'm going to go through the timeline of national entrepreneur days.

Speaker:

So you guys can have a better understanding of how it really came about.

Speaker:

So back in 1800, that is what.

Speaker:

Jean Baptist, the French economist coined the term entrepreneur.

Speaker:

And then.

Speaker:

In 2009, there is a hit series show that I know a lot of you

Speaker:

entrepreneurs love watching shark.

Speaker:

Debuted on ABC.

Speaker:

And I have to say, I truly did enjoy watching shark tank and I still watch it

Speaker:

when I have time, it just a great way to learn, to see like what it took other

Speaker:

people to make their business successful.

Speaker:

What did they have to give up?

Speaker:

What do they have to, maybe even.

Speaker:

Compromise and a lot of entrepreneurs, they actually start their businesses

Speaker:

on the side while they still have a full-time gig because , they

Speaker:

have to build up some money in order to what their full-time gig.

Speaker:

So that's, that's something to consider.

Speaker:

And when was.

Speaker:

National entrepreneurship officials day, well, president Barack Obama.

Speaker:

He declared November as national entrepreneurship month back in 2012.

Speaker:

So now it is a day that is officially celebrated amongst entrepreneurs.

Speaker:

Some of the ways that you guys can get out there and celebrate.

Speaker:

As, support local business owners, seeing if there's any like, pop-up

Speaker:

shops happening, any local markets or industry events in your city and go out

Speaker:

there and go network, go support people.

Speaker:

The other thing too, is that.

Speaker:

You want to give a shout out on social media, to other entrepreneurs you want

Speaker:

to celebrate their accomplishments, or you want to, really celebrate someone's

Speaker:

when someone that you watch flourish as an entrepreneur, and maybe they started

Speaker:

from nothing and now they've worked super hard and they've built up an empire.

Speaker:

So that's how you guys can contribute.

Speaker:

And the other thing.

Speaker:

That is really great about entrepreneurs, national entrepreneurs, days,

Speaker:

you can come together and coming together and building that community

Speaker:

is so important in order to grow.

Speaker:

I've often heard that.

Speaker:

Entrepreneurs.

Speaker:

Sometimes he feels like we're not island all by ourselves.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

Because when you are creating, it can get lonely at the top is

Speaker:

especially during a pandemic.

Speaker:

So don't just sit there lonely, find other entrepreneurs who are also.

Speaker:

Creating in the same space that you're creating are similar spaces and connect

Speaker:

with them, you know, start a community of your own if there's not one there.

Speaker:

So that's what I would say to you guys.

Speaker:

I would love to hear how you guys are going to celebrate

Speaker:

national entrepreneur day.

Speaker:

So if you are celebrating, take some photos and tag me on Twitter, I'm

Speaker:

going to post my Twitter in the show.

Speaker:

Notes are tagged me.

Speaker:

Even on Instagram.

Speaker:

My handle is going to be in the show notes.

Speaker:

But it does, she wear stilettos on Instagram.

Speaker:

I also want to talk to you guys about, you know, my why and what

Speaker:

entrepreneurship really means to me.

Speaker:

If I were to pick one word of what entrepreneurship means to me, that

Speaker:

one word for me would be freedom.

Speaker:

My one word is freedom, and I know that you guys have your

Speaker:

own meaning and your own word.

Speaker:

I want to know what that is.

Speaker:

And if you can't think of it right away, dig deep and think about, you know,

Speaker:

what's your, why, why did you get started?

Speaker:

Did it happen accidentally?

Speaker:

Maybe you had something happened and you were forced into it

Speaker:

because you had no other options.

Speaker:

Maybe it was a dream of yours for many years.

Speaker:

And you finally got the courage to do that.

Speaker:

Whatever it was, that is important.

Speaker:

That is your story.

Speaker:

That is, what's going to have an impact on people.

Speaker:

It's going to have people resonate with you based on your story.

Speaker:

my story is that I actually got pushed into entrepreneurship a year

Speaker:

before I was planning to do it.

Speaker:

And by that, I mean, I was in corporate America.

Speaker:

And I had a boss that was a bully and he was just a very bad person.

Speaker:

And I remember that I was on an airplane coming back from a business trip and I got

Speaker:

this feeling in my stomach, this feeling that I had never, ever gotten before.

Speaker:

And I knew at that moment that if I went back to.

Speaker:

For that boss the next day that I would literally be sick.

Speaker:

And because I knew better, I'm like, well, that's not good.

Speaker:

I don't want to do that.

Speaker:

I decided I'm going to take a sick day because I really was not feeling well.

Speaker:

And I'm going to, see what my options are and, you know, just

Speaker:

going to keep the story short.

Speaker:

Maybe I'll tell the long story another day, but basically.

Speaker:

What happened is like I ended up leaving that company and there were times when

Speaker:

I just didn't want to get out of bed.

Speaker:

Like normally would wake up early because I I didn't know what I was

Speaker:

going to do because at the time I didn't want to go back to corporate America.

Speaker:

I didn't want to be bullied.

Speaker:

I didn't want to be treated the way that I was mistreated.

Speaker:

I thought to myself, what am I going to do?

Speaker:

So it was talking to my mom and I said to my mom, you know,

Speaker:

mom, I don't know what to do.

Speaker:

I don't want to go back to corporate, but you know, I wasn't

Speaker:

really ready to be an entrepreneur.

Speaker:

I was planning it.

Speaker:

I was going to do it a year later and she said to me, what are you waiting for?

Speaker:

Dimple?

Speaker:

Why don't you just do it now?

Speaker:

And you guys, that was a magical moment because that hit home, like nothing

Speaker:

before she said, what are you waiting for?

Speaker:

Why don't you just do it now?

Speaker:

what's interesting is the moment I accepted the statement that

Speaker:

my mom said to me and I believed in it and I said, that's right.

Speaker:

What am I waiting for?

Speaker:

Why can't I just do it?

Speaker:

Of course I can.

Speaker:

And I believed in myself and it was a total mindset shift where

Speaker:

I went from feeling down away.

Speaker:

I went from feeling unworthy, where I went from feeling like depressed

Speaker:

and upset about my situation.

Speaker:

I went to feeling excited and exhilarated and having something

Speaker:

to look forward to for the future.

Speaker:

And that is my why and my why equals freedom?

Speaker:

I don't want to be told what nail Polish color to wear.

Speaker:

I don't want to be trapped in a car with someone from 7:00 AM to midnight,

Speaker:

and then told, I have to wake up at 5:00 AM to work on the presentation

Speaker:

that we should have worked on that evening because that's a real story.

Speaker:

So I decide that I want freedom and whatever price that freedom comes with.

Speaker:

That is okay.

Speaker:

If I have to work 12 hours a day versus like eight hours a day, I'm totally

Speaker:

good with that, because guess what?

Speaker:

I have my freedom and that is something that nobody can take away from me.

Speaker:

And I know that if you're an entrepreneur, you have a why and you have a story

Speaker:

I would love to hear your stories.

Speaker:

And I'm going to put my email in the show notes.

Speaker:

If you want to share your stories with me, I may ask you to come on my show,

Speaker:

or I might do another episode where we are highlighting entrepreneurs

Speaker:

and, you know, share your story.

Speaker:

So feel free to do that.

Speaker:

All right, you guys I've never actually shared that before, but I just felt

Speaker:

compelled to share it today because it is national entrepreneur day.

Speaker:

And I think it's really important to have a why.

Speaker:

I think your, why is what's going to propel you when you're tired

Speaker:

because you guys, this is reality.

Speaker:

There are days where you will be tired.

Speaker:

There are days when things will go wrong.

Speaker:

There's days when technology won't work and you can't just give up.

Speaker:

What you have to do is you have to keep going because when you are wanting to

Speaker:

give up, go back to your why, because your why is going to propel you to keep going.

Speaker:

When you're exhausted, when you're burnt out, you're going to remind yourself,

Speaker:

remember what I'm saying right now?

Speaker:

And put it in your brain.

Speaker:

You're going to remind yourself.

Speaker:

Dimple said, what's your.

Speaker:

And you're going to thank me because you've got to think that way.

Speaker:

you guys, I hope you're going to do something really fun and exciting

Speaker:

for national entrepreneur day.

Speaker:

For me, I think it's a reason to celebrate.

Speaker:

I think that I might even do a clubhouse him later to ask other entrepreneurs what

Speaker:

their story is and what's their why.

Speaker:

So I'd love for you guys to join in.

Speaker:

If you're listening to.

Speaker:

And also today, what I wanted to do.

Speaker:

Is, I want it to give a shout out to some of my amazing listeners, because

Speaker:

I'm so grateful for you and wanting to give a shout out for some listeners

Speaker:

that left me a review on apple.

Speaker:

And I'm so thankful.

Speaker:

So I'm going to name some of the people that did that.

Speaker:

And if you haven't left a review yet you're enjoying my podcast.

Speaker:

I would love it.

Speaker:

If you could go to apple podcast and leave me a review, I would

Speaker:

be so grateful and I'll probably end up shouting you out as well.

Speaker:

I wanted to thank Omar Mo Omar is the host of the nomadic executive podcast.

Speaker:

So you can check him out.

Speaker:

I will link him in the show notes.

Speaker:

I wanted to thank also.

Speaker:

My good friend, Robert Hannah was also an amazing entrepreneur and he's the

Speaker:

host of the legally speaking podcast.

Speaker:

He's actually in the UK.

Speaker:

So what's interesting is I didn't realize this, but even though the reviews

Speaker:

count from other countries, they don't actually show up on your apple podcasts.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

That's an answer.

Speaker:

If you're wondering why they don't show up, it's they only show up from

Speaker:

your country, but they still count.

Speaker:

So Robert, thank you so much.

Speaker:

And then I wanted to thank and there, and there is a criminal attorney in Virginia

Speaker:

and she's got an amazing podcast as well.

Speaker:

That is called crime time with Virginia.

Speaker:

Defense attorneys.

Speaker:

And also, ants and entrepreneur tissues and attorneys, even attorneys can be

Speaker:

entrepreneurs because when you leave a big farm, or if you leave, a firm where

Speaker:

you were partnered up with a bunch of people and you're running your own thing,

Speaker:

you very much have to be an entrepreneur because you have to wear all the hats.

Speaker:

You have to wear the marketing hat you have to wear like, everything,

Speaker:

you have to know how to do it.

Speaker:

That's what entrepreneurship is about.

Speaker:

And then I also wanted to thank Jennifer Laskin and she is a civil attorney

Speaker:

and legal educator on the east coast.

Speaker:

I wanted to thank Gail Scott, who recently launched her show called midlife Moxie.

Speaker:

So you can check her out as well.

Speaker:

And I wanted to thank Midco from Bulgaria.

Speaker:

Thank you so much for your review as well.

Speaker:

I want to let you guys know.

Speaker:

I appreciate all of you and I love all of you and I'm so grateful for

Speaker:

you guys, and I hope you guys have an amazing, happy national entrepreneur day.
